After I Got My Eyes Fixed

I see things quite differently now.
Tiny things.
Small things. Large things.
I pick up the small things.
I leave the large things alone.
Many fair things are ugly to the eye.
We may and may not agree.
It’s a dreamy world out there.

I smiled and said
hello to the old man-on-a-walker
down by Walgreens on Picacho
and then we smiled at each other.

Got some ale,
started thinking why anything matters,
decided against it and ate a candy.
I felt better until I remembered not to.
The man-on-a-walker bought a half case of Coors.
I admired his fortitude as he was way older than I.
I think maybe he’d appreciate a nice bowl of fruit and nuts.
I paid for the ale and walked out.

Give attention to nature, they yelled.
Nature needs attention, they wailed.
So I pay attention.
Today the wind was littered
with tiny bits of matter and grit
which made me sad for myself
so I went back inside and
locked the door and
closed the shades,
and closed my eyes,
and sank into the underworld.

There’s painting with paint,
and there’s painting with words.
Speaking words to ourselves,
speaking words to others,
painting ourselves into the
funhouses of the future,
painting ourselves into corners,
just so we can wrestle our way out
and do it all over again.
My aberration breaks free of all responsibility
for this state of affairs.

I want to know the rules here, I shout.
The underworld shouts back,
“No fear.”
Is there more?
“Delight in the preparation of food and drink
and in their consumption.”
What else?
“Plant your flag, then eat a good breakfast.”

Later, I’m back at the computer,
adding still more words to this song of songs.
I’m not sure why I do this.
I know better than to do this.

And so I continue
raining down even more words
most people on the planet
will never hear,
unless I get famous…
well, that’s their bad hahahaha.

And I think…
What the fuck did I just write?!
What The Fuck?!

scha·den·freu·de!

Plans for tomorrow:
I’ll get up,
plant my flag,
sit down at the table and
rejoice in some fresh fruits and nuts
from a coffee-stained mug
that reads,
Be Kind.

Just the way I likes it.
