Letters in Love
Ever have gin go down the wrong way?
The fire burns.
You gag.
So you light a cigarette.
Smart move, fool!
If meat can generate mind,
then mind must generate language,
that which sustains and fulfills,
wounds and kills.
We are letters in love.
We are your thoughts and feelings,
your stories and dictims,
your covenants and your breach of covenants,
your nightmares, your daydreams,
your hate speech, your love sonnets,
your marriage vows, your divorce decrees.
We connect and we disconnect.
We praise and we blame.
We build and destroy.
We laugh and we cry.
Fire brings clarity.
Fire brings remorse.
We are letters in love.
We sing with an enchantment
both dizzying and bewildering.
This eagle flies high,
ignoring the rabbit-proof fence
as it seeks to return home once again.
