The Ever Changing Astonishment of Insight

Some viruses need
other viruses to replicate.
The eastern black rail
disdains flying,
opting to sneak through
Louisiana’s coastal marshes
by night.
The Japanese word ‘Kuchi zamishi’
is the act of eating
when you’re not hungry
because your mouth is lonely.

My mouth sometimes gets lonely
so I bring it here
to meet other lonely mouths.
Behold our gathering of lonely mouths.
Here shines the Church of Lonely Mouths,
our sanctuary, our refuge, our foxhole,
the walls reverberating in sacred hymns
to the Merrie Melodies of Porky Pig,
our high priest of good things to come.
He,
despite being timid and shy
and saddled with a stutter,
often manifested bravery
and determination while
overcoming his fears
to help his friends.
